I have the first generation of ipod touch and a macbook, but I really want the ipad and my ipod touch dosent work that well. Should I get it? Is it a waste?

I have tried downloading all different kinds of SMS apps, and Missed Call app, and nothing has worked. I’ve even turned off notifications in my stock messaging settings. The LED light is still green. I also have updated my droid to the 2. 1 system. Thanks SO much for any help!
