2002 Chevy Tahoe 5.3 Check Engine Light Obd Code P0300?

I have a 2002 chevy tahoe 4×4 5.3 liter, the engine light came on and came out to random misfire p0300. I have changed the wires to prostart wire set and spark plugs to bosch platinum +4, and cleared the code but then came on again with same code p0300. Someone told me to go with stock wires and spark plugs . Could this be the problem that the wires need to be original from Chevrolet?
Is there any way that i can check to see where the problem is? The truck boggs a little in the morning but when it warms up the truck runs fine, the truck also seems to be wasting more gas faster.

  1. First off trash the platinum plugs. Go to your local parts house and ask for NGK 55 plugs, gap them to .40. If you are wanting to run an aftermarket wire run the Taylor “409″ 11.4mm wires. Kinda pricey, but they work great. If that doesn’t clear the code you may need to look into the sensors. These motors have multiple sensors that control the timing, even the water temp sensor has to do with timing. The main sensor that causes the misfire is the knock sensor. There is two of them, they set under the intake. If the plug wires and plugs don’t fix your problem start with these two sensors. If you can turn a wrench you can change the with basic tools.

  2. i did the same thing with my 2002 Bonneville i would unbolt the exhaust before the catalytic converter and drive it if it runs alot better its most likely the cat just don’t drive it very far…..my light would blink every once in a while……it will get horrible gas millage if the cat is clogged i changed the plug wires and plugs also but it was just the cat hope this helps it is weird what those things will do

  3. It is highly unlikely it is the wires. It is much more likely the spark plugs. These engines are set up for Iridium plugs and I have had problems with my 2003 with those same plugs. Here is a site that tells everything that could be wrong when that code pops up.http://www.obd-codes.com/p0300

  4. i had that cod on a 95 z28 with the lt1 i did every thing you did and stil had that cod. and like you said would bogg at times.the bogging down got whors till finely some one found out that my catalytic converter was clogged
