How Is Insurance “reform”?
Going to lower insurance costs, when they are based by the charges from the health care providers? If you look at the stock charts from the insurance industry they make nothing in dividends. Any one who knows the market could tell you that they do not make huge profits, so how are they going to lower your rate? Health care reform, does not regulate hospitals and doctors who charge $300 for a $15 shot. You all have just been punked by your own party!
True.
Health Insurance Companies are not the problem, only a ‘Watch the birdie!” prop for the White House Thugs.
Don’t overlook the FACT that the drug companies gave the Obama thugs $150,000,000 to leave them alone … and it worked! (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/08/09…
Nobody seems to remember Obama saying he was going after the drug companies.
Newport News, VA 4OCT2008: “And then we’ll tell the pharmaceutical companies, ‘Thanks but no thanks for overpriced drugs’. Drugs that cost twice as much here as they do in Europe and Canada and Mexico. We’ll let Medicare negotiate for lower prices. We’ll stop drug companies from blocking generic drugs that are just as effective and far less expensive. We’ll allow the safe reimportation of low-cost drugs from countries like Canada.”
Anybody seem any of that happening?
Health insurance only reflects the high cost of medical care in the US.
Medical “corporations”, doctors, and the pharmaceutical industry continue to raise their sky high rates and fees free from any government restrain.
Health Insurance companies are subject to state regulators, whenever a state feels like enforcing its own rules.
California’s WellPoint example: (the hidden part)
“Wellpoint’s rate hikes are the direct result of the Golden State’s insurance regulations—the kind that Democrats want to impose on all 50 states. Under federal Cobra rules, the unemployed are allowed to keep their job-related health benefits for 18 to 36 months. California then goes further and bars Anthem from dropping these customers even after they have exhausted Cobra. California also caps what Anthem can charge these post-Cobra customers.”
“This explains why Anthem lost $58 million in California on its post-Cobra customers in 2009.”
“Anthem last year hired an independent actuarial firm that found its rates sound and necessary. The company presented its findings to California insurance commissioner Steve Poizner last November, who had a month to review the proposed increases and never objected. But recently amid the White House campaign, Mr. Poizner has joined the chorus claiming to be “skeptical” of the increases and demanding that Anthem postpone them while he conducts a review. Anthem has done so.”(1)
AND THIS: July 2007 (You tell ‘em, Cindy!)
“Anthem Blue Cross will pay $10 million and reinstate coverage for 1,770 enrollees while Blue Shield of California will pay $3 million and reinstate coverage for 450 enrollees. Both insurers will also reimburse policyholders for any outstanding medical debts that resulted from loss of insurance.
“This fine sends the message that if you come into California to sell health insurance, you must play by the rules,” said Cindy Ehnes, the director of the state’s Department of Managed Health Care.”(2)
Actually – if we’d quite listening to right wing pinheads in this country we wouldn’t need insurance. Do you have any idea how much MONEY is thrown to these Billionaires each year??? Any idea??? And 1/3 of your “healthcare” insurance dollars are used to figure out a way NOT to treat you!!!
Yes – it’s true. You get to carry your very own cross up the hill. All so the Billionaire can have the best champagne.
We could set up a system where we don’t use insurance – there would be NO company making a profit out of the money we’re forced to send them. We pay taxes to pay for a police force…. does anybody think that’s a bad thing? Is there somebody making a profit on this? Do 1/3 of our taxes go to pay off the Billionaires? No – the taxes pay for the police force.
And we could do the same thing with healthcare. We don’t have to do the brain-dead republican thing and pay the Billionaire – we really don’t.
People – break your chains!
Amen brother.
I just paid (well, my insurance just paid) $70 for eye drops and $6,000 for an insulin pump for my daughter.
The Democrat’s solution is to have Universal healthcare where they will deny us these things. See, saved money!
Truthseeker: Your insurance company covered the shot for you. And if you didn’t have insurance, the hospital would have charged you more!
$50 for a saline drip. A bag of salt water!!!
and why do providers charge more and more? because malpractice insurance rates keep going up. why? sue happy americans. torte reform is a major player here, but no one wants to introduce it. and it is every party that has no balls to do it, not just one or another.
I`ve never been charged $300 for a $15 shot, I pay my $10 co pay and get everything I need and thats that.
it`s reform because they are revamping the whole system. Its an overhaul would probably be a better term than reform. but I guess its not PC enough
