Why Are Doom Stock Sound Effects Heard In So Many Movies And Tv Shows?
There are several sound effects that come to mind.
- Mechanical door open/close sound
- Barrel explosion
- Sound when an imp sees you
- Sound when a zombie sees you
It drives me crazy, can these sounds really have been taken from Doom, a PC game made back in 1993?
Doom has very famous, well known sound clips that can be licensed out to filmmakers.
The only reason is obvious, that gamers of a certain age have heard it thousands of times over and get a kick out of hearing it…
They all came from the same effects library:http://www.sound-ideas.com/6000.html
A lot of sounds have been recycled it’s just a general money saving activity in the movie and tv industry. Ever heard of the “Wilhelm Scream”? The truth is the effects used in Doom may have been re used from something else at one point. I have noticed anytime a gate or steel door opens it’s that stupid squeaky noise from the original resident evil.
Dooms an old game so those sounds could of come from any wear & are probably public domain so they are probably dirt cheap to use as sound effects & also they are not zombie they are possessed space marines, they just look like zombies because demons tend to corrupt the appearance of their hosts bodies so that’s why they look like zombies.
