Why Did Twitter.com Ask Me For My Password Of My Email Address?

A few days ago I joined the Twitter? I was supprised to see that I had to give them the password of my yahoo email address?
Why is that?

  1. It asks you for those passwords so it can integrate itself within your Yahoo! Messenger or Yahoo! email.
